I am talking not just Scandinavian Minimalism in furniture and home but about life in general. How we can be minimalistic the Nordic way and enjoy some Hygge in our lives, or Mysig as the Swedes call it.
If you look at Scandinavian house you will see that every furniture have its purpose and place. The house is clean, not growled, practical but no astute.
Many of the pieces at houses are bought to last, they are practical and are built to last, to be appreciated and to be resilient. Marimekko, Iittala, Ikea, Svensk Tenn, Kosta Bode to name few.
Those Ikea chairs that we bought 20 years ago are still in use. They are made to last. Sustainable brands Like Svensk Tenn that has sustainability as one of its core values. Scandinavian minimalism is all about simplicity, purity, and calm.
It is about buying less and buying better. Less is more. In furniture, food, where sustainable options are available.
Pastel colors, greys, wood and sleek clean design in a summer cottage by the lake. These pictures come to mind when asked to describe Nordic Minimalism. The small, practical cottage that is comfortable and radiates with Hygge.
Scandinavian design is a product of its environment, harsh conditions that have forced people to evolve, innovate and be practical about the design. This is all about Scandinavian Minimalism that you can have in your home.

How you can have more in your life, a quality time when having less of things and owning less. What do I mean by this?
When you take care of nature, you pick up berries in Finland, or mushrooms in Sweden. You only take what you need. You always leave enough for the animals in the forest as you live in symbiosis with them. Nature gives you what you need not what you want.
When you apply this method to your life, you start looking at the space that you live in.
Do you have too much stuff, does it all spark joy like Marie Kondo says, do I need to all these things and can I survive with less? Yes, you can.
Do not store things. Be firm on do you need this or not. Cleaning the space around you creates space in your life and mind, fewer things to take care of, clean or store.
You will be amazed on how much you can depart if you ask do you need it or want it? Don’t create emotional attachments to items. Let go from things when they are not needed anymore.
Recycle in areas that you can. Can you have a compost back of the garden to make mulch?
No need to buy when you have your own natural mulch production from your own waste. Can you buy in bulk? Are there local products, a co-op that you can use?
Can you avoid using plastic at kitchen wrapping, or use biodegradable alternatives? Love Seed and Sprout for this. Can you grow your own products? Communal gardens, your own back yard, or even your balcony for herbs.
Using what you have, rather than graving more things, products, food that goes to a bin. Roughly one-third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted. Less waste and more used, freeze things (milk, tomatoes etc.) dry things, herbs, mushrooms, berries.
Being Grateful and Intentional
It goes without saying that we should be grateful for what we have, or does it?
Are you intentionally saying thanks for your life, possessions and what you have in your life?
having a more meaningful purpose for anything and everything.
Some ways it is going to sauna and enjoying that relaxing feeling end of the working week and clearing the negative thoughts out of your mind. Being intentionally happy, enjoying little things and this will spread to other aspects of your life as well.
Spending time in nature, doing sports and just enjoying the quietness of the forest and nature within. Relax and enjoy life.
